NEW DELHI, May 18 (KUNA) -- Indian army said on Saturday that the security forces gunned down two militants during a gun-battle in Pulwama district Jammu and Kashmir early morning today.
Quoting an army official, the Press Trust of India said the Indian forces started a cordon and search operation in Panzgam area of Awantipora after specific inputs about the the presence of militants in the region.
The hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering an intense gunfight which resulted in the killing of the two militants.
The authorities are ascertaining the identity of the slain militants while the forces continued search and sanitisation operation.
The development came after two days killing five people including three militants, a soldier and civilian in an encounter in Pulwama triggering massive clashes between the local residents and security forces and subsequent clamping of curfew and suspension of internet services.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies. (end).
