TOKYO, April 18 (KUNA) -- A magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted eastern Taiwan at 1:01 p.m. (0501 GMT) Thursday, the Taipei-based Central News Agency reported, citing the Central Weather Bureau.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The earthquake's epicenter was located in Hualien County at a depth of 19 km, according to the report.
The tremor was also felt in the capital Taipei, some 170 kilometers north of Hualien.
Earthquakes are frequent in Taiwan and the most destructive was a 7.6-magnitude quake in 1999, killing more than 2,400 people. (end) mk.tg
