TOKYO, April 18 (KUNA) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has supervised a test-firing of a new tactical guided weapon with a powerful warhead, the North's state media reported Thursday.
The Korean Central News Agency said Kim observed the test-firing of the "new-type tactical guided weapon" by the Academy of Defense Science on Wednesday. It marked the first time since November that Kim has attended a weapon testing. According to the report, Kim said the completion of the development of the weapon system serves as a significant event in increasing the combat power of the People's Army.
The agency did not specify what the newly developed weapon was, but said the tactical weapon with a "peculiar mode of guiding flight" and "a powerful warhead" met all designing indicators in the firing test.
The report comes as the second US-North Korea summit in Vietnam in February ended without agreement. (end) mk.tg
