ISTANBUL, March 22 (KUNA) -- The emergency Islamic meeting, called by Turkey to address ramifications of the deadly attacks on Mosques in New Zealand, kicked off here on Friday.
A Kuwaiti delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah is participating in the emergency meeting, called the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Open Ended Executive Committee Emergency Ministerial Meeting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in his keynote speech that the Islamic nation would take action against "rhetoric of hatred." Mounting racist terrorism is fueled by speeches of hatred, hostility against Islam, foreigners and immigrants, he said.
For his part, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said the gunman who attacked the two mosques in the city of Christchurch, a week ago, would spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement.
At least 50 people were killed in the twin attack last Friday by the lone gunman who showered worshippers with a hail of gunfire at the two mosques. He was reportedly an advocate of white supremacy thoughts.
Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Yousef Al-Othaimeen says chias will spread throughout the world unless hatred language and Islamophobia have been "confronted." (end) ta.rk
