KUWAIT, March 19 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Abbas Al-Naqi announced signing of a MoU in petroleum media with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat General, considering it a new phase of fruitful cooperation between both sides.
Al-Naqi told KUNA Tuesday on the sidelines of signing the MoU, that it would contribute to highlighting the strategic role of the petroleum industry in member countries in the global energy industry.
It will also help in joint coordination to defend the petroleum interests of member countries and to refuting rumors and inaccurate information about the petroleum industry, which are often promoted in some media and foreign social networking sites, he said.
The bilateral relations between OAPEC and the secretariat, which began in the early years of the establishment of the GCC in 1981, are still close especially in media, economic, training, environment and climate change fields.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Secretariat General of GCC, GCC Secretary General Abdul-Latif Al-Zayani, aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two sides in petroleum media, exchange of experience, information and coordination in international forums, as well as coordination in the rehabilitation and training of media cadres.
