AMMAN, March 18 (KUNA) -- Jordan's parliament on Monday urged the Jordanian government to recall its ambassador from Israel, expel the Israeli ambassador from Amman and take necessary measures to face Tel Aviv's hostilities on holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
This came during an emergency session of the Parliament in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz, where the MPs urged the government to exert legal efforts in all international forums to maintain the legal status in Jerusalem, Jordan's new agency (petra) said.
It noted that the Parliament recommended that the Arab League and the UN Security Council address the Israeli violations and provide protection to the Palestinian people as well as address Arab and international parliaments to confront Israeli legislation affecting the status quo and hold the occupation accountable for its practices.
The MPs called on the government to announce the details of the so-called "Deal of the Century" and to inform the Parliament of the measures taken against it, and to strengthen Jordanian sovereignty over the two areas of Al-Ghumar and Al-Bakoura, as well as condemning all forms of normalization with Israel.
The agency quoted the Prime Minister as saying that Jordan is dealing with recent violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque as a national issue.
The agency also quoted Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi as saying that there was no authority over holy sites from any outside party since Al-Aqsa Mosque was part of the territories occupied in 1967 and its administration is subject to the Awqaf of Jerusalem under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Holy Sites.
Jordan oversees Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under a peace deal with Israel in 1994 and under another agreement signed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and King Abdullah II in 2013. (pick up previous) mjb.aa
