KUWAIT, March 18 (KUNA) -- At least 24 people, mostly children, have been killed and more than 30 others injured as a train overturned in the Democratic Republic of Congo, police said on Monday.
The accident, which took place in Bena Leka settlement, 140km north of Kananga, one of Kasai province's main towns. involved a freight train carrying stowaways, police sources were quoted by BBC as saying.
Several wagons fell into a river and have yet to be searched so the number of victims could rise, according to the sources.
It is the third rail accident in about a month in central DRC. Five people were killed in a passenger train accident last month at the station in Kalenda. (end) mt
