GAZA, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Israeli warplanes on Tuesday bombed positions belonging to the Hamas Palestinian movement in the northern Gaza Strip, causing damages.
According to local press reports, Israeli reconnaissance fighter jets and F16s targeted the site of the Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, with several missiles.
This came hours after Israeli artillery shelled a checkpoint on the eastern border in the central Gaza Strip, killing one Palestinian and wounding four others claiming they attempted to kill an Israeli border guard.
For his part, Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said in a press statement that the Israeli occupation is fully responsible for the repercussions of the escalation and successive attacks targeting the Palestinian people.
Israeli newspapers reported that following the security incident, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a press statement that the Political and Security Affairs Cabinet was to meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss subjects described as classified.
An Israeli source noted that Netanyahu had decided not to transfer the Qatari financial aid to the Gaza Strip. (end) wab.aa
