NEW DELHI, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Indian police sources said on Tuesday that four police officials were killed in a militant attack in Shopian district of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting local police sources the Press Trust of India noted that the militants mounted the attack on a team of police guarding a residential area in Shopian killing three policemen on the spot and injuring another seriously who succumbed during treatment in a local hospital.
The security forces launched a cordon and search operation to track down the militants who fled with the service rifles of the police.
The police pointed out that they suspect involvement of six Jaish-e-Mohammad militants led by former police officer Adil Bashir in the attack. Bashir joined the militancy after deserting the police force with eight rifles in last October. (end) atk.aa
