NEW DELHI, Nov 18 (KUNA) -- Indian police said on Sunday that security forces killed two militants following an encounter in Shopian district of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian police said Sunday.
Quoting a local police spokesman, the Press Trust of India said that the security forces launched a cordon and search operation following credible intelligence input about the presence of militants in Rebban area of Zainapora in Shopian. During the search operation, the security forces came under fire from the hiding militants, leading to intense gun fight, which killed the militants.
"They were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Al-Badar. Both killed terrorists were involved in a series of terror attacks on security establishments and many other civilian atrocities in the area," the spokesman was quoted as saying. The forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the site. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims denied by Islamabad. (end) atk.hb
