TUNIS, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- The 32nd Arab conference for chiefs of anti-narcotics apparatuses called on Thursday for beefing up cooperation among the Arab states in fighting drugs.
The conferees, at end of their meeting, recommended boosting coordination and cooperation among the Arab countries in the face of drugs, called for monitoring non-medical usage of Benzodiazepines, illegal trade in Amphetamine, cyber drugs trade including websites that teach processing narcotics or planting weed.
They called for halting drugs trafficking in high seas and oceans, incriminating these offenses at the international level, establishing cooperation between anti drugs authorities with postal companies to abort smuggling.
Moreover, they urged for tighter observation of banking transactions, namely those done with credit cards, approved formation of the "Arab shield for facing drugs proliferation in the Arab region," a project featuring a number of steps such as establishing a monitor linked to a data base that serves all member states and concerned institutions. It also envisages setting up an early warning mechanism.
The conference, held at headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, was attended by officials from the Arab ministries of interior, the Arab League, the GCC, the GCC Criminal Information Center to Combat Drugs (GCC-CICCD), the Interpol and the Naif Academy for National Security.
