BRUSSELS, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- UK Prime Minister Theresa May Wednesday expressed her optimism that an agreement on the UK withdrawal, Brexit, is achievable.
"By working intensively and closely we can achieve that deal. I believe a deal is achievable and now is the time to make it happen," she told reporters in Brussels ahead of a meeting with EU leaders on Brexit tonight.
"I will be talking to leaders tonight about the very good progress that has been made since (informal EU summit) in Salzburg, both on the withdrawal agreement and our future partnership" she said.
"The teams have been working very hard in order to insure that we can address these issues. What we've seen is that we've solved most of the issues in withdrawal agreement, there is still the question of the Northern Irish backstop," she noted.
Analysts say that the backstop is a position aimed at protecting an open border on the island of Ireland in the event that the UK leaves the EU without securing a Brexit deal. (end) nk.ibi
