BRUSSELS, July 27 (KUNA) -- The European Union Friday said that it is aware of Saudi Arabia's announcement to temporarily suspend oil shipments through the Bab Al Mandab Strait following Wednesday's attacks on two oil tankers by the Houthis.
"Attacks on vessels transiting in the Bab Al Mandab Strait are a threat to international trade movements and heighten regional tensions," an EU spokesperson in Brussels told journalists today.
The spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity said the EU continues to closely follow developments there.
EU Foreign Ministers during their meeting in Luxembourg last June emphasised the strategic importance of freedom of navigation and international trade in the Red Sea, noted the spokesperson.
EU Foreign Ministers also called on all parties in the conflict in Yemen to refrain from measures that would hinder the UN-lead peace efforts and stressed that the only solution to the conflict is a political one and that all the actors should focus on supporting the ongoing work of UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths in this regard.
