WASHINGTON, May 24 (KUNA) -- The United States late Wednesday ordered two Venezuelan diplomats to leave the country in 48 hours, following the expulsion of American officials from Venezuela.
The State Department declared the Charge d'Affaires of the Venezuelan embassy and the Deputy Consul General of the Venezuelan consulate in Houston, Texas personae non grata.
"This action is to reciprocate the Maduro regime's decision to declare the Charge d'Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Caracas personae non grata," the State Department said in a statement.
The comments come a day after the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro alleged American officials were "conspiring" against his government and sought to sabotage his reelection bid in the country's recent presidential race.
"The accusations behind the Maduro regime's decision are unjustified... We reject any suggestion to the contrary," the State Department said. (end)
