BRUSSELS, May 15 (KUNA) -- Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Central railway station in Brussels Tuesday to protest the killings of 58 Palestinians at the Gaza strip on Monday by Israeli soldiers.
"Children are not terrorists! Free Palestine" shouted the demonstrators and expressed their solidarity and support with the Palestinian people. The demonstrations organized by Belgian peace organizations was also in commemoration of NAKBA DAY (Disaster day) when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced out of their homes and hundreds of Palestinian villages and towns were destroyed after the declaration of independence by Israeli in 1948.
Meanwhile, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) strongly condemned Tuesday "the brutal and ongoing indiscriminate use of lethal force which has resulted in loss of life and serious injury to peaceful protesters and journalist covering protests." Thirteen journalists covering protests in Gaza were injured on Monday, 14 May when Israeli military opened fire on Palestinian protesters along the Gaza border, said the IFJ in a press release.
"We strongly condemn this inadmissible targeting of journalists in Gaza by Israeli forces which is a major hindrance to freedom of the press, a pillar of democracy.
Any democracy worthy of the name should commit to protecting journalists, no matter where they come from," said IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger.
"We hold the Israeli army and its reckless shooting responsible for the killing and injury of Palestinian journalists for which it must be held accountable," he added. (end) nk.mb
