AMMAN, April 9 (KUNA) -- The Jordanian government called on Monday for an urgent international investigation over alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians in town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, Syria.
Jordan condemned the alleged chemical weapon attack in Douma, and supported Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons's investigation of the matter, Minister of State for Media Mohammad Momeni said in a statement.
OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumcu said earlier today a Fact Finding Mission (FFM) was in the process of gathering further information from all available sources to establish whether chemical weapons were used.
Momeni meanwhile reiterated call for a political end for the conflict in neighboring Syria.
He said the Syrians should engage in negotiations aimed at ending the conflict that broke out in March 2011, to prevent further bloodshed.
Chemical weapons were allegedly used against opposition-held Douma killing and wounding scores of people. (end) ab.bs
