ISTANBUL, April 7 (KUNA) -- The crucial Bosphorus Strait was closed to incoming and outgoing ships on Saturday after an oil tanker crashed into Istanbul's Asian shores, according to local reports.
The incident, involving a 225m-long vessel, occurred at 4pm local time close to the Second Bosphorus Bridge, according to Anadolu news agency.
The crash has caused damage to the shore and a nearby restaurant but no casualties have been reported.
Bearing a Maltese flag, the vessel was bound for Ukraine and collided after a reported loss of navigational control.
The Strait, bound by Turkey from both sides, is a crucial maritime route linking the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe to one another. (end) ta.sd
