WASHINGTON, March 21 (KUNA) -- A suspect in a series of deadly package bombings that rattled Austin, Texas killed himself early Wednesday with an explosion inside his car as authorities approached him, police say.
Law enforcement sources believe 24 year-old Mark Anthony Conditt is responsible for five explosions this month that killed two people and injured five others in Austin or in San Antonio.
Investigators are trying to determine whether any bombs remain and if he had any accomplices.
"We don't know where this suspect has spent his last 24 hours, and therefore we still need to remain vigilant to ensure that no other packages or devices have been left throughout the community," Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said.
Conditt reportedly detonated a bomb inside his vehicle, killing himself after a stand-off with police, investigators said. A police officer suffered minor injuries from the blast and a SWAT team member fired a shot at the vehicle.
Police don't yet "understand what motivated him to do what he did," Manley said.
"This investigation is still underway, so we cannot say that this was individual acting on their own," Manley said.
President Donald Trump said on twitter, "Austin bombing suspect is dead. Great job by law enforcement and all concerned!" (Pick up previous) hy.mt
