ANKARA, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz discussed the bilateral relations and issues concerning Syria by phone late Tuesday.
During the conversation, President Erdogan briefed King Salman on the latest developments of Turkey's Operation Olive Branch against PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists in Afrin region, north Syria, Anadolu Agency reported, citing presidential sources. The operation, launched on January 20, is supported by the Arabs, Kurds and Turkmens who were forced by the terrorists to flee Afrin, Erdogan said, adding it will allow local citizens to return home. King Salman expressed support for the Geneva process and international efforts regarding the Syria matter while President Erdogan said the Astana process and Sochi Congress are essential parts of the Geneva talks.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of preserving Syria's territorial integrity and reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
They also reaffirmed determination to enhancing the bilateral relations.
They lauded as fruitful the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim to Saudi Arabia in last December, voicing hope that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's upcoming visit to Turkey will open new horizons for the bilateral ties. (end) rs.gb
