KUWAIT, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- The United States pledges USD 200 million in support of the anti-IS coalition efforts in Syria, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced Tuesday here.
The announcement came before the meeting of International Coalition against IS, which kicked off earlier today at the level of foreign ministers.
The Coalition succeeded to liberate 98 percent of the Iraqi and Syrian soil from the clutches of IS, while many of the displaced returned home, noted Tillerson.
Yet, he pointed out that IS was still a threat despite the liberation, stressing the need to provide finances for Iraq and Syria in order to make sure IS was thrashed and could never be able to return.

Initiatives are essential for achieving stability, especially in Iraq and Syria, in order for peoples of those two countries to return to their normal lives, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday.
Addressing the meeting of International Coalition against IS, which kicked off earlier today at the level of foreign ministers, Tillerson voiced his country's gratitude to generous contributions from Coalition members throughout the past years, yet emphasized the need for more funds to be given.
Showing understanding for fears of NATO member Turkey regarding what is currently happening in Syria, Tillerson reiterated Washington's stand in support of Ankara's efforts to face terrorism.
"We are united and will continue efforts and determination to fully defeat IS," he concluded. (pickup previous) hb
