KUWAIT, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- The US-led International Coalition against the so-called Islamic State (IS) is due to meet in Kuwait at the level of foreign ministers later on Tuesday.
The encounter involving the 74-member alliance is part of efforts to up the fight against terrorism and examine a strategy the coalition has concocted in its battle against IS.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson are both expected to address proceedings.
The meeting, one of many events comprising the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI), will be divided into two sessions, with the first tackling the fight against IS and the second examining anti-terrorism efforts.
The meeting is part of a series of international conferences that took place in order to build a formal coalition to destroy the IS, which had taken over large portions of Syria and Iraq in 2014.
Since then, the coalition is now 68 countries strong beside other decision-making international organizations, namely the US, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zeeland, Australia and Turkey, in addition to members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco.
The first of these conferences took place in September 2014 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. (end) asa.hb
