DUBAI, Feb 3 (KUNA) -- Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, launched the domestically manufactured satellite KhalifaSat on Saturday.
The satellite is 100 percent built by UAE engineers; it will be put into orbit later this year after a series of launch tests, according to a press release by the information office of Dubai government.
With this national achievement, the UAE enters the space industry, the statement quoted Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid as saying after the launching ceremony.
The space industry will grew to play a great role in the national economy, he added, noting that this will be a Arab achievement.
KhalifaSat, a remote sensing Earth observation satellite, is the third manufactured by the Mohammad bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) after the, DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2 that are already orbiting. (end) gb
