BAGHDAD, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi police have thwarted a suicide attack in northern Baghdad, and killed the assailant, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.
A police patrol in the northern Baghdad district of Aden killed a suicide attacker who was wearing an explosive belt, before he would target innocent civilians, spokesman Brigadier Saad Ma'en added in a press release.
The vest went off after the assailant's death, injuring some policemen and passersby.
Parts of the capital have been suffering a state of insecurity since the Iraqi forces defeated the so-called Islamic State (IS) and retook the regions the militants once seized in the central and northern regions of the country. (end) ahh.msa
