BRUSSELS, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Petroleum International (Q8) installed a charging point for electric vehicles in the Belgian seaside resort of Ostend, 113 kilometers from Brussels, on Monday.
According to a press release issued by the Q8 office in Belgium Tuesday, this charging point was inaugurated by Bart Tommelein, Minister of Finance and Energy in the Flemish government in Belgium , Fadel Al-Faraj, Managing Director for Kuwait Petroleum in Northwest Europe, Johan Vandelanotte, Mayor of Ostend, among others.
The Q8 charging point network was installed in cooperation with EDF Luminus the second largest electricity producer and energy supplier on the Belgian energy market. Bart Tommelein said in a press statement "To get people to drive electrically, a sufficient amount of charging infrastructure is required. It's great to see that big companies like Q8 support this goal." Al-Faraj noted that "We no longer can ignore drivers using alternative fuel such as electric vehicles. Our aim is to become a 'mobility service hub' aimed at any form of mobility and service. Strategic partnerships with major brands such as EDF Luminus are crucial to support this vision and strategy." With these EDF-Luminus fast chargers, Q8 is actively involved in the development of the infrastructure for the mobility of tomorrow. Q8 wants to help the Flemish government in its goal to install 2,500 public charging stations by 2020.
By choosing strategic locations along the Belgian highways and motorways, the most important cities are connected and a nationwide network is created, it said.
The fast charging stations are part of the European Unit-E network of 300 fast chargers so that you can drive an electric car carefree from Italy to the United Kingdom.
The chargers are of the latest generation and allow two cars to charge at the same time. The charge capacity is 50 kW, which allows the battery to be 80 percent charged in only 30 minutes.
All types of electric cars can be plugged very easily because of the multi-standard plugs.
On his part, Koen Vankelst, Senior Operations Director for Kuwait Petroleum in Northwest Europe, commented that "Electric cars, cars on CNG, cars on hydrogen ... everyone should be able to come to us. With this collaboration, we want to offer an extra service to our customers and stimulate sustainable mobility." The office of the Kuwait Petroleum in Northwest Europe is located in the Belgian city of Antwerp. (end) nk.gta
