BRUSSELS, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- An estimated 50,000 people participated in a demonstration in favour of Catalan independence in Brussels Thursday.
According to Belgian media reports, thousands of Catalans arrived in Brussels from Spain only yesterday. Some travelled here by caravan and many camped out at the Atomium landmark of the Belgian capital The deposed Catlan leader Carles Puigdemont is currently living in Brussels.
The demonstration is causing disruption to the road traffic in Brussels with metros unable to cope with the flow of passengers.
Belgium's Flemish nationalist party, N-VA, has expressed its support for the Catalan demonstrators.
"We are all Catalans today" Peter Luyckx an MP of the party said adding "it is unacceptable that today in Europe there are political prisoners locked up." (end) nk.mt
