Date : 07/12/2017

CAIRO, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- President of Arab Parliament Mishaal Al-Salmi called for an urgent meeting to discuss the recent US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving its embassy from Tel Aviv..
Al-Salmi said in a statement late Wednesday that members of the Arab Parliament will issue a statement to reflect the "pulse of the Arab street," following this "dangerous" decision by the US administration.
"This decision is a flagrant challenge to all international conventions and resolutions, a threat to international peace and security, as it provokes the sentiments of Arabs, Muslims and the international community," he noted.
He said that the US decision was "unilateral," and will change the current legal status of the occupied city, defying the framework of international references and relevant UN resolutions.
Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim called the US decision "null and void," and a "heavy blow" to Palestinian-Israeli negotiation efforts and the Middle East peace process.
In Madrid, Spanish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the statute of Jerusalem is a central issue that should be resolved through negotiation, adding that there is no better alternative than a two-state solution, "Israel and Palestine living together in peace and security." Late last night and hours after recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, President Donald Trump issued a memorandum that will delay the move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv for six months.
