KUWAIT, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is keen on taking decisions to protect the stability and security of Kuwait, said Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim Tuesday.
On His Highness the Amir's letter to parliament, Speaker Al-Ghanim told the press that Kuwait's leader called on MPs to seek measures aimed at protecting the country from any harm.
Addressing a parliamentary consultation meeting attended by 42 MPs, Al-Ghanim read His Highness the Amir's letter to the lawmakers on the accelerating developments in the region.
"In view of the grave accelerating developments in our ablaze region, and in line with the extremely political, economic, and security repercussions resulting from the them, His Highness the Amir tasked me, as head of the Legislative Power, with conveying the following messages to the MPs with complete clarity and transparency," Al-Ghanim told the session.
First, His Highness the Amir reiterates the importance of maintaining national unity and cohesion of the domestic front, utterly rejecting any sectarian, tribal or sectoral alignment, or a political discourse that could stir ethical or denominational hatred or aversion, Al-Ghanim said.
His Highness the Amir stresses that the MPs have to be at the vanguard to offer models for the people, proceeding with an all-inclusive national discourse, not that of division and separation.
Secondly, His Highness the Amir reaffirms the importance of not being drifted emotionally regarding the crisis among "brothers in the Gulf", and halting any political or media abuses that some might get engaged into, either on the Gulf row on any other one, the Speaker said.
His Highness the Amir stressed Kuwait's stance as a real mediator from "inside the Gulf" concerned about dissolving the crisis "among the brothers" and not as a third party, noting that "upon that objective and sincere approach we will remain and proceed." Thirdly, Al-Ghanim said, His Highness the Amir focused in his message on the legislators' pivotal constitutional and monitoring roles, adding MPs will have to be more concerned about the "urgent economic and security files." Finally, His Highness the Amir urged the MPs to work hard for maintaining Kuwait's stability, assuming their historical responsibility, and supporting the political leadership.
His Highness the Amir, meanwhile, stressed that he would not hesitate to make any decision, if necessary, to "guarantee the nation's security and stability, as well as preserving the future of its people." After reading His Highness the Amir's letter, Al-Ghanim conveyed to the MPs greetings from His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who wished them success in shouldering responsibility at the critical stage the region is going through. The MPs wished Sheikh Nawaf a safe return home.
Following the parliamentary consultation meeting, Speaker Al-Ghanim stressed MPs' "complete response and commitment" to His Highness the Amir's message and their support to his hard efforts to "face the grave political and security challenges surrounding the region." The chief parliamentarian made the statement at the National Assembly's media center after he conveyed His Highness the Amir's message to the MPs.
Some 42 lawmakers attended the meeting, he said, noting that Deputy Speaker MP Issa Al-Kandari and MP Safaa Al-Hashim did not attend since they are abroad. Other five MPs did not show up, Al-Ghanim said.
The Speaker emphasized that he delivered His Highness the Amir's message to the legislators "written and literary." He said that other meetings would soon follow "amid the dangerous and accelerating developments taking place in the region, making it a must for us to stand as a solid wall behind His Highness the Amir." He also reaffirmed confidence in His Highness the Amir's sagacity, experience and ability to counter challenges.
The core of the MPs response to His Highness the Amir was that they all "stand in support to His Highness the Amir, wishing him success in his mission," Al-Ghanim said.
He added that the lawmakers reiterated backing His Highness the Amir's strenuous efforts for a reconciliation in the Gulf, as well as joint action to combat the colossal security challenges in the region.
They stressed the importance of avoiding "rumors, and whatsoever that could harm security and stability of Kuwait, and the region," Al-Ghanim said.
Meanwhile, the MPs expressed strong desire the new cabinet to be formed would be up to expectations, and capable of cooperating with the parliament to defeat challenges.
Today, MPs only attended to listen to His Highness the Amir's message, and the meeting did not address any topics on the Assembly's agenda.
Al-Ghanim revealed that His Highness the Amir had told him that he would receive the lawmakers very soon to hear the message from him personally, adding that "there could be developments, since matters are accelerating very fast." In the meantime, the Speaker referred to a request from MPs to meet with His Highness the Prime Minister to express their expectations and hopes for the formation of the new government. Al-Ghanim said that he would soon meet with His Highness the Premier and invite him for a meeting with the lawmakers. (end) ns.fn.msa
