WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- The US sentenced Ahmad Mohammad Ahmad Haza Al-Darbi,a Saudi national, to 13 years in confinement for conspiracy, attacking civilian objects, hazarding a vessel, terrorism, attempts, and aiding the enemy.
Al Darbi's hearing took place in a military courtroom at the Guantanamo Bay prison, according to a Department of Defense statement.
Al Darbi plead guilty to the charges that came from an attempt to carry out attacks against shipping vessels off the coast of Yemen and a completed attack against a Fence oil taker. As part of his plea agreement, he delayed his sentence to cooperate with the government.
"Al Darbi has cooperated with US law enforcement and intelligence agencies and, as part of the pre-trial must continue to cooperate," the statement said.
"In exchange for Al Darbi's guilty plea and promise to cooperate and testify, the Convening Authority agreed to limit the amount of confinement that would be approved." (end) ak.mb
