AMMAN, July 23 (KUNA) -- The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) accused the Syrian government on Sunday of violating a ceasefire that went into effect a day earlier in the eastern region of the capital Damascus.
Airstrikes targeted towns in the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region, where a truce has been in place since Saturday, read a statement by the UK-based institution.
The Syrian military has declared a halt in fighting in parts of Eastertn Ghouta after Russia, an ally of the Syrian government, secured a deal with rebels to defuse conflict in the area.
The region was one of four proposed de-escalation zones in an agreement forged between Moscow, Iran and Turkey in May. (end) tk.nam
