CAIRO, July 14 (KUNA) -- The Arab League strongly condemned the Israeli "dangerous" closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and banning of worshippers from performing Friday prayers.
The league, in a statement, warned against the consequences of such a move on the Arab and Muslim world, and said the closure would fuel religious conflict, terrorism and extremism in the region.
The closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque will have negative impacts on the peace process, added the league.
It called for immediate reopening of the mosque and that Israel's refrain from any attempt to change the historic status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied Al-Quds.
The Cairo-based league urged the international community to live up to its responsibility, and protect and Islamic and Christian religious sites, as well as provide protection for the Palestinian people and their lands.
