MADRID, April 17 (KUNA) -- The Spanish coast guard said on Monday said they saved 58 migrants who tried to enter the country illegally through its southern Mediterranean part, a press release said on Monday.
The people on two boats, including nine children, were rescued a few hours apart and nautical miles off Alboran island of the Spanish Almeria province.
Each boat was carrying 29 people, the coast guard said, adding that they are all in good conditions and have been moved to a migrant caring center.
On Saturday, the coast guard saved 199 migrants who attempted to illegally cross the western Mediterranean from North Africa into Spain on five boats. The migrants, from SubآSaharan Africa, were moved to the southern city of Cadiz, according to the report.
Thanks to the improving weather conditions this time of the year, illegal migrants from Africa risk death to reach the European coast using unsafe boats. (end) hnd.msa
