WASHINGTON, March 20 (KUNA) -- The White House reiterated the FBI's confirmation of "no evidence" that the president and Russia colluded, but refused to drop ex-president Barack Obama wiretapping claims, despite lack of evidence.
Sean Spicer, the White House spokesman, underlined to reporters that a House committee hearing with the heads of the FBI and National Security Agency on an investigation into Russia illustrated that "nothing has changed." "Senior Obama intelligence officials have gone on record to confirm that there is no evidence of a Trump-Russia collusion," Spicer said.
In the hearing, FBI Director James Comey also said there was no information to support allegations, made by Trump earlier this month, that the former Obama administration had him wiretapped during the presidential elections.
However, when asked if President Trump was prepared to withdraw the accusation, the White House spokesman responded, "no." "We started a hearing. It's still ongoing," Spicer said, adding, "I think there's a lot of areas that still need to be covered. There's a lot of information that still needs to be discussed." Earlier on twitter, Trump tweeted former National Intelligence chief James Clapper's remarks to the press that "there is no evidence" that shows the president colluded with Russia, critisising US press once again of spreading "fake news." He also repeated his presidential campaign trail assertion that former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton "made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a terrible campaign".
