ANKARA, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Turkish and US top Generals met in Incirlic Airbase, southern Turkey, on Friday and discussed needed measures to liberate the Syrian city of Raqqah from the grip of so-called Islamic State (IS).
Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar briefed US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford on progress of Ephurates Shield Operations, launched by the Turkish army to support the opposition Free Syrian Army in northern Syria, Hurriyet Daily News quoted military sources as saying.
Akar affirmed that the Turkish army was in control of Al-Bab, northern Syria.
He underlined importance of the US-led international coalition's support to the fight against IS, said the sources.
The sources said the views of the two generals were identical over the fight against terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
Turkey wants the new US Administration to stop dealing with the Kurdish people protection units in Syria.
This is Dunford's third visit to Turkey in six months. (end) rs.bs
