KUWAIT, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said Tuesday the GCC's dialogue with Iran would help the two sides address tension in the region.
Al-Jarallah was reacting to Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who said Tehran was ready to have a dialogue with the Gulf Cooperation Council over Syria and Yemen.
"We welcome this statement and this is indeed what we are looking for," Al-Jarallah told reporters on sidelines of a reception held by the Iranian embassy marking the national day.
He said dialogue would be in the interest of Iran and the GCC countries.
This dialogue, said Al-Jarallah, "will actively contribute to defusing spots of tension in the region whether in Yemen or Syria or any other place in our region." The dialogue, he added, "will address the conflicts" in the region.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah delivered a message from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on behalf of the GCC, during a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran last month, concerning dialogue between the two sides.
