AMMAN, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- Two Kuwait Air Force aircraft boarding humanitarian cargo for relieving Syrian refugees arrived at the military Marka airport in the Jordanian capital on Monday.
Personnel of Kuwait embassy and Kuwait-based International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO), which sent in the supplies, received the cargo. The estimated 20 tons of food, clothes and other necessities were sent in for the refugees as part of an ongoing humanitarian campaign, titled "winter warmth." Khaled Abdulrahim Al-Zua'bi, the embassy counsellor, expressed hope in remarks to KUNA that the aid materials would be helpful for the refugees, indicating that the aid was dispatched from Kuwaitis who sense cruelty of the hard conditions suffered by the refugees.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Jassem Al-Holi, the head of relief department at the IICO, said the cargo included some highly-needed food namely rice and sugar. He thanked the embassy staff for their help in organizing the relief operation and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense for specializing the two planes for transporting the supplies.
He also thanked donors from among ordinary Kuwaiti citizens and Kuwait Relief Society for its contributions to the efforts to sooth the refugees' suffering, now experiencing biting winter cold.
Ziad Abu Taleb, an official at the IICO bureau in Amman, told KUNA that food and materials would be distributed to a number of Jordanian charities that would in turn hand them over to the Syrians who live at camps not overseen by UN refugee agencies.
He also thanked Kuwait for helping the refugees since start of the Syrian crisis. (end) mjb.rk
