IRBIL, Jan 4 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi federal police said Wednesday Abu-Marawan Al-Hadithi, a leading member of the so-called Islamic State (IS), was killed in a security operation in southeast Mosul city.
During the operation, part of the second stage of the fight for Nineveh, the security forces fought a fierce battle against the terrorist group and shot down three bomb-laden drones, commander of the police Lt.-Gen. Ra'ed Shaker said in a press release. The security forces were able to clear Al-Wahda, Al-Moallemin and Sumer neighborhoods of the terrorists and regain full control of the Mosul-Kirkuk road, southeast Nineveh, he pointed out.
Shaker added that the security forces evacuated hundreds of families who were trapped in the conflict areas to safer areas. (end) sbr.gb
