BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- The EU condemned Thursday the announcement of the formation of a full government by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The EU criticized the move, arguing that it "runs contrary to assurances given earlier not to frustrate the UN mediation of an inclusive political solution to the conflict based on the GCC Initiative, the National Dialogue outcomes, and all relevant UNSC resolutions including UNSCR 2216." "This may not advance the efforts to reach a negotiated solution and any steps to create unilateral political bodies in Sanaa risk not to be accepted by the international community," Nabila Massrali, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, told the Kuwait news agency, KUNA, tonight.
She noted that "a cessation of hostilities agreed by all parties to the conflict is crucial in order for humanitarian assistance to reach all suffering Yemenis and to revive the peace negotiations." "A political solution is the only realistic solution to this conflict. The EU continues to support the peace process, to supply humanitarian assistance and will play an active role in post conflict response," added the EU spokesperson to KUNA. (end) nk.ibi
