ISTANBUL, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed in an attack by the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) in southeastern Hakkari province on Saturday.
A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Turkish Anadolu News Agency that PKK had used mortar in the attack in the province's Semdinli district.
The source noted that a large-scale operation was launched to hunt the perpetrators.
In the meantime, the southeastern Diyarbakir province Governor's Office has announced the death of seven PKK militants in a security operation in Lice district of the province.
The Turkish General Staff said in its statement said the army killed two others in the Hozat district of eastern Tunceli province.
Meanwhile, in Cukurca district of southeastern Hakkari province, two more PKK militants were killed and another injured by a Turkish drone, an army source said.
Also, the governor's office in southeastern Sirnak province unveiled that two PKK members were killed during ongoing anti-PKK operations.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign against Turkey in July last year.
Since then, more than 300 civilians and nearly 800 security personnel were killed. Around 8,000 PKK members were killed or apprehended, according to the Turkish government figures. (end) rs.ibi
