KUWAIT, May 19 (KUNA) -- UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed continued consultations with parties involved in the Yemeni peace talks here, meeting Thursday with representatives of the Yemeni government in order to find a solution to the conflict.
Ould Cheikh Ahmed is expected to meet with representatives from the Ansarullah and the General People's Congress, focusing his discussions with them on implementing UNSC resolution 2216 concerning the halt of violence in Yemen and efforts to bring peace to the war-torn country.
The involved parties were received yesterday by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who called on these groups to reach common grounds on political and security issues pertaining to the war in Yemen.
On May 17, The Yemeni government suspended its participation in the peace talks on the pretext of Ansarullah movement and the General People's Congress' procrastinations and incompliance with the agreed-upon references of the talks.
The government delegation stressed that it would return to the talks if the other sides agreed to stick with the six points of reference, which called for abiding by the UNSC resolution 2216, the GCC initiative for Yemen, the outcomes of the previous rounds of the national dialogue, the full recognition of all parties involved, the results of the UN-brokered consultations in Biel - Switzerland, and the framework proposed by Cheikh Ahmed.
