ISLAMABAD, May 4 (KUNA) -- At least four policemen were killed and two others wounded in a predawn assault on a check-post in Afghanistan's southeastern Paktia province, said an official on Wednesday.
Provincial Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Qader Gul Zadran told media that the attack that lasted about two hours took place in Badam Kandi locality of Syed Karam district in Paktia.
The official confirming the casualties said that police had arrived in the area to launch a search operation for the attackers.
No group has so far claimed the responsibility of the attack but Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan targeting foreign and local security forces following the launch of their annual warm weather offensive. (end) sbk.mt
