RIYADH, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- GCC Information Ministers on Thursday denounced violations committed by the Houthi militias and forces loyal to them against human rights in Yemen as well the repeated attacks on the southern border of the Saudi kingdom.
Saudi Minister of Information Dr. Adel Al-Tarifi told a news conference at the conclusion of an extraordinary meeting of the GCC information ministers here today that the meeting resulted in an agreement to coordinate the Gulf media discourse on Yemen and reverse the true image of what the Houthi militias are committing of violations that can be described as a war crime and the disruption of humanitarian access to those affected of fighting.
He stressed the importance that the media in the GCC detect the Houthis' practices and their associates in Yemen including the continued killings of civilians, targeting of health and educational facilities, looting of relief and humanitarian materials and procrastination in the consultations led by the Special Envoy of the United Nations to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh to reach a political solution to end the war in the country in accordance with resolution 2216 and the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms as well as the national dialogue outputs.
He noted that the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the field of information and work to keep up with the changes that occur in this area to develop tools and mechanisms that enable dealing with the events and issues and reverse the positions of the GCC states towards the outside world.
For his part, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Zayani said the meeting touched on media cooperation between the GCC countries and the mechanisms of this collaboration in all files with a focus on the media file pertinent to the Yemeni affairs Al-Zayani asserted that the GCC states have common information programs with the General Secretariat of the Council which act as a coordination tool to highlight the outcome of the GCC joint work between the media devices in the GCC countries.
He indicated that the meeting discussed the performance of the ministries of information and working to develop the existing cooperation and unification of the GCC media discourse towards various issues.(pick up previous).
