KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Municipality has signed a deal worth KD 602,000 with a pair of engineering firms to upgrade its geographical information system (GIS), with an implementation period of up to 15 months.
In a press conference to announce the deal Tuesday, which was signed with Al-Khatib Engineering Bureau in conjunction with Mousawi Engineering Consultant (MEC), Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Manfouhi described the GIS as an integral component of the Municipality's development plans.
The GIS system will be heavily relied upon to conduct a number of Municipal tasks, particularly, mounting construction projects, Al-Manfouhi said.
Calling the move a step towards fully adopting an information technology system, Al-Manfouhi noted that a broad information system such as GIS would lead to increased productivity while facilitating the works of the Municipality's various departments. (end) amh.nam
