Abu Dhabi, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abduallah Al-Sabah said on Monday that Kuwait is keen on looking into renewable energy latest technologies.
The Minister made this remark to KUNA upon arrival to UAE to partake in a two-day World Future Energy Summit (WFES).
Sheikh Mohammad said that Kuwait has practically started following serious measures in shifting to renewable energy, especially in the field of solar energy and hydroelectric, which would greatly improve the quality of the environment and save in energy cost.
The distinguished participation of Arab and international figures in the summit gave a great change to discuss means of activating clean energy technology in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the Minister added.
The Ministry of Electricity and Water in cooperation, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation are setting medium and long-term plans in order to achieve applying renewable energy in Kuwait.
There are a number of renewable energy projects to be announced soon, he said.
WFES is held in UAE, Abu Dhabi, with an attendance of Arab and international experts to discuss challenges facing the world in the field of energy, as well as tackling means of producing renewable energy to limit the negative impact of fossil energy and global warming. (end) smr.lb
