ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (KUNA) -- At least 14 rebels were killed and 18 others wounded in a United States led drone strike and clearing operation in Afghanistan's southeastern Paktika province and eastern Nangarhar province, said officials on Wednesday.
Paktika governor's spokesman, Nabiullah Perkhel told media that at least five insurgents were killed in a US drone strike in the Nakah district of Paktika province.
He said that the missile strike targeted the militants' compound in the Nakah locality. The dead bodies of insurgents were handed over to their families.
A statement from the 201st Selab Military Corps said that nine insurgents were perished and 18 others wounded during ongoing offensive in the Sherzad, Hisarak and Khogyani districts of Nangarhar province. Ten suspected militants and doctors who treated the injured rebels had been arrested during the operation, the statement said.
The drone strike and the operation came days after multiple suicide attacks including a massive truck bombing near an Afghan military base, a suicide bombing at the national police academy and an armed assault on a NATO military base left at least 50 people dead including a coalition service member and hundreds of others wounded.
