KUWAIT, July 1 (KUNA) -- The National Assembly on Wednesday approved a draft bill on the DNA profiling for all citizens, foreign residents and visitors in the first and second readings and referred the bill to the government.
The legislation aims to make the security services better able to deliver their mandate and protect the national security through fast identification of perpetrators of violent crimes.
The 13-article bill is meant to facilitate the criminal procedures and identify unknown bodies and culprits involved, according to the explanatory note of the bill.
Its second article provides for launching a database for DNA profiling at the Ministry of Interior to ensure keeping, processing and analyzing the DNA samples.
The eighth article set up to one year prison term and a fine of up to KD 1,000, one of them or both, as punishment for anybody who unjustifiably fails to produce the DNA samples of themselves or those of the persons in their custody. (end) kt.gb
