CAIRO, July 14 (KUNA) -- Arab Foreign Ministers, holding an urgent meeting Monday evening over Gaza, have decided to support the Palestinian quest for an international protection and back the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza, a senior Kuwaiti official said.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, speaking to KUNA following the one-day meeting and shortly before leaving Cairo, said the ministerial meeting commended Kuwait's request for the urgent meeting to discuss the Arab League's actions vis-a-vis the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
The foreign ministers, he added, decided to form a ministerial committee that would travel to New York to meet with UN Security Council members and UN Secretary General to urge them stop the killing of Palestinians, as well as rallying support for the Egyptian initiative.
The committee will be chaired by Kuwait, which is also chairing the Arab Summit, with Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and the Arab League Secretary General as members.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said the Arab countries would act through the UNSC because it was the body responsible for international peace and security.
He said there must be an Arab position to stop the Israeli practices and find a solution for the Palestinian cause.
Asked about his meeting with Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said Shukri briefed them over the contacts that paved for the Egyptian ceasefire initiative.
"We are happy to reach an agreement sponsored by Egypt ...," he said.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled praised the Palestinian people who were resisting the Israeli war machine. (pickup previous) kt.bs
