PARIS, April 16 (KUNA) -- The French government on Wednesday condemned the reported abduction of over 100 school girls by Nigerian extremists two days ago.
The abduction took place on Monday from a boarding school in the northern state of Borno where hundreds of students were preparing for exams.
Nigerian authorities say they believe the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram is responsible for the mass kidnap.
"France condemns the kidnapping of more than 100 Nigerian school girls by a terrorist group...We call for their immediate release," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The French statement also sought to assure Nigeria of France's solidarity in the fight against terrorism and contacts several months ago between the leaders of France and Nigeria discussed potential cooperation in anti-terrorist operations. (End) jk.ajs
