NEW DELHI, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- In a bid to improve the air transport of war-torn country, India will soon provide helicopters to Afghanistan and upgrade and refurbish its transport aircraft, state run All India Radio (AIR) reported Sunday.
AIR quoted, India's foreign minister Minister Salman Khurshid on board the special aircraft on his way from Kandhahar to New Delhi, as saying the helicopters will be supplied very soon, adding, India has also been giving Afghanistan some logistical support.
The Minister said it is consistent with India's approach for capacity building in a friendly country and providing training, the AIR reported him as saying, adding, India is not in the game of providing people large scale equipment which is lethal.
Khurshid, however, did not specify the number or type of helicopters to be provided to Afghanistan.
Earlier Khurshid inaugurated the Afghanistan National Agricultural Science and Technology University with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kandhar, the AIR said, adding, it is the first Agricultural University in Afghanistan built with eight million dollar assistance from India.
