BRUSSELS, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, Friday condemned the bomb attacks in Egypt over the past 24 hours, which have killed and injured a large number of people.
"Tomorrow, 25 January, Egypt will mark the third anniversary of the popular revolution where the Egyptian people stood up against a repressive regime, to call for dignity, social justice, pluralism, security, democracy, human rights, and a better economy," she said in a statement tonight.
"In trying to achieve these goals, Egyptians have faced many set-backs. The road towards democracy will no doubt remain difficult, but violence will not bring Egypt any closer to the people's desire for a democratic country where all Egyptians enjoy respect and fundamental human rights," she said.
Ashton urged all the people of Egypt to stand together and, in a spirit of compromise, build a deep and sustainable democracy. (end) nk.bs KUNA 242314 Jan 14NNNN
