TEHRAN, Dec 30 (KUNA) -- Up to 230 Iranian MPs have signed a draft law to
oblige the government to increase uranium enrichment to the level of 60
percent.
In a statement to local media on Monday, Chairman of the Parliament's
Foreign Policy and National Security Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that
bill was a warning to the United States and the Western governments.
Through pursuing the plan, the parliament is trying to support the Iranian
negotiating team in the course of negotiations with the West, he said.
Boroujerdi confirmed that some 230 lawmakers have signed the bill so far,
adding that it bill will be binding to the government if approved.
The MPs argue that their demand on the current competition among the fuel
producing nations and say they believe that higher fuel enrichment will bring
superiority for Iran.
They said that they believe that modern economic development is dependent
on diversity in generation of energy and access to renewable energies. They
suggested that Iran needs to produce 60 percent fuel for vessels and
submarine. (end)
